Health Policies as Education Policies? A Review of Causal Evidence and Mechanisms

Despite lagging behind other high-income countries, the United States has made slow but steady improvements in health, especially for children from low-income households, through a series of health policies and programs since 1990s. Have these benefits spilled over to educational attainment achievement? In this article, we systematically review causal impact various on children’s outcomes States. We find that several aimed at improving physical parents have modest spillover effects key school-age children. On hand, there is paucity research adolescents’ mental (and limited evidence their efficacy where exists). contextualize by providing benchmarks education conclude with some open questions suggestions can guide policymaking health-education nexus.
